Finding a Person’s Date of Birth
You might think there’s no reason to lie about your date of birth besides vanity, but if you happen to learn that a person has misled you about one piece of information, you can start searching for a pattern of deception.
If you are hiring a new employee, it’s probably a good idea to collect as much information as possible on them. You might as well learn their date of birth. If you’ve got a bad neighbor or someone troubling your life, performing a basic background search for details like date of birth, residence, address and other basic information gives you some idea about this person’s background.
People involved in online dating should perform a general web search for a person’s bio information. You might learn this great guy is 10 years older than he’s claimed, or that he’s already married. Finding basic background info just gives you some facts to work with.
With that in mind, here’s how you can a person’s date of birth for free.
1. Google It
Start with a Google search on that person’s name. Find what a basic google search brings up. You’re likely only to find a blog or a page on Facebook, MySpace or Twitter, but you might find news stories of their misdeeds or a marriage announcement. Heck, you might find this guy or girl is willing to share their stories enough on a social networking site, that you’ll be able to catch them in lies that way.
2. Social Networking Websites
People sometimes forget that others read their Internet bios and are happy to give their true information on the blog or social network profile. Find the birthdate and search for inconsistencies. Look at the pictures they post of theirself. Try to date those photos using clothes, hairstyles or the condition of the photo. This won’t be perfect detective work, but you’ll be able to get a decent estimate.
Notice how many friends view this person’s account. Note from any comments whether these friends are close personal friends. Especially note if family members of this person are online on their homepage. If people who are likely to know this person’s true birthdate are on this page, the date of birth is more likely to be accurate.
3. Lexis-Nexis, Merlin or Accurint
Lexis-Nexis, Merlin or Accurint are online databases of information about people. The more information you can supply to this database, the more accurate your search will be. Try to include the person’s place of birth, childhood hometown, closest relatives and middle initials (or name) will be helpful. This database information is generally drawn from voter registration, driving records, professional licensing paperwork or credit headers.
4. Use Telephone Directory Sites
Look up the person’s name in one of the big, well-known telephone directory websites, such as Zabasearch and Intelius. AnyBirthday.com or BirthDatabase.com are also valuable online resources for finding birthdays. You’ll occasionally find birth information in directories, though they might not always nail down the actual day of birth.
5. Browse Through a Legal Directory
Lawyers can browse date of birth information in publications like the Findlaw Legal Directory or in Martindale-Hubbell.
6. Hire a Private Investigator
Have a private investigator look at the person’s vital records in the vital records office of the state the person was born in. Many businesses routinely perform background checks on prospective employees. It’s less likely that a private individual will go to such lengths, but there are times this is advisable.
For instance, if you meet someone, have a whirlwind romance and decide to get married, it’s probably a pretty good idea to perform a background search on your fiance. This doesn’t mean you think there’s something shady about their past, but these are things you don’t want to learn after you’re married.
