How To Use the Internet to Locate People
Locating People Online
There are so many methods for how to use the Internet to locate people that I hardly know where to start. In the past ten years, the methods for finding old friends and family members, make new acquaintances and network online have grown exponentially. Social network websites, instant messaging, texting, chat room, forums and email contacts are better and easier to use than ever, while each of them gives you the means of locating people to enrich your life.
Locating People in the Information Age
In fact, you could say that the Internet is the best tool for finding people ever invented. That’s because you have a whole world of people posting information to the Internet about people, addresses and other records. That’s why the Internet Age is called the Information Age, because the worldwide web exists to exchange information of one kind or another. In the end, the Net is about asking questions and someone else answering questions.
People who aren’t used to using their computer to learn information can get confused when going online to perform a search. When finding someone, you have to ask yourself what question to ask the search engine, or at least the words or fraction of a question that is likely to lead to the information you’re searching for. So we’re going to try to help you do just that.

What Words Are Important Searching Online?
When searching online for a person, remember which words are going to narrow down the search to exactly who you are trying to locate. Put in the person’s full name. Add in any information that might focus the search on the person you are focusing on, such as birthday or age, where they were graduated from, what their maiden name might have been or where they might be living now. Keep playing around with the words you input until you find the right combination.
Also, remember that the quotation marks ” ” narrow a search. This means that you want to find those words specifically in that order. So if you want to find an old friend name Buck T. Johnson, and you are tired of finding people simply named Buck Johnson, place the words “Buck T. Johnson” in quotations and search using that phrase. This should help narrow your search for ole Buck.
If you want to find someone named “Kim Trask”, but her maiden name was “Kim Xavier”, then try putting both names in quotation marks and see if that locates the woman you’re searching for. If Kim used to live in Houston, but you think she now lives in Denver, then you should try all four searches: (“Kim Trask” Houston), (“Kim Trask” Denver), (“Kim Xavier” Houston) and (“Kim Xavier” Denver). Note to leave the name of the city of the quotation marks, because that will limit your options considerably.
