How To Find People Using Their Maiden Name

How To Find a Person Using Her Maiden Name

Women tend to be harder to find than men, because most people don’t know how to find people using their maiden name. With the rise of the Internet, performing online searches using old maiden names isn’t as difficult as it once was, if you know a few tricks to performing the search. Most people have some kind of online footprint, even if you haven’t heard from that person in decades.

So the next time you try to find a woman and all you know about her is her maiden name, use one or more of these tips to help find her.

Network the Family

If you know where any of her family lives, contact them and ask where and how you can contact her. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to her family, that means either (1) you probably shouldn’t be searching for her or (2) she didn’t get along with the family. If either of those cases apply, certainly don’t call the family.

Network Old Friends

Find mutual friends online or in your area and ask them about your friend. See if you can learn from family or friends what her married name might be, if you have had no luck finding her with a maiden name. If it’s been years, there’s a good likelihood she has a new name, whether she is married to an original husband or not. Learning her new name or the area she lives in now will help you narrow your search immensely. You need information.

Subscribe to Online Search Sites

This is one of those rare cases where I’ll suggest you acquire a paying membership to an online site, in this case an online friend finder site. Go to Classmates dotcom, Reunion dotcom, Maiden Name dotcom or Switchboard dotcom and see if you can find any information for these. Get a one-month subscription and cancel the subscription at the end of the month.

Some sites specialize in helping people find a woman using only her maiden name, which is why it might be worth the extra expense.

Usually, a search will conduct a pretty thorough search for around $25.

Check the Public Records

Public records let you find the last time a woman used her maiden name: her marriage certificate. You have free access to vital records and public marriage records, so you can learn who she married and what her married name is. This makes it a lot easier to find her, if you don’t know friends or family who can help you.

Use Social Network Website

Social networking sites are great for finding women using their maiden names. Most of the big social network sites have taken this into account and ask a woman both her maiden name and married name. These names will be listed on their profile or under aliases, so search Twitter, Facebook, Skype or Myspace for your old friend.

Be Patient

If your old friend has a common name, your search might be frustrating at first. If you remain patient and use all the new tools and resources at your disposal, though, you now know how to find a person using her maiden name.
