Figuring out how to find people on Myspace isn’t much different than finding people on other social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook. “My Space” was once the hot new social network site on the Internet and the site was bought by Google for a billion dollars. Myspace, which was originally designed to help promote musical bands, became a favorite networking tool of the younger generation in the early 2000s.
These days, after Twitter and Facebook have shoved their way into the social networking mainstream, you don’t hear as much about Myspace as you once did. But the site has one of the largest user demographic of any social network website online, so it’s still a great tool for finding old friends and new. Here’s how you go about searching for someone on Myspace.
Register and then Log In
The basic searches on Myspace turn up certain information, but if you want the full range of options, register for a Myspace account and then sign in. This lets you look at photographs of the people whose pages you are searching.
Use the Myspace Search Page
Click on the “search” link, which directs you to the search page. You should see a “Find a Friend” information field. Have the person’s name handy, but if you know their email address, this will be the best way to find someone on MySpace.
Narrow Your Myspace Searchh
Any additional information you can offer should help you narrow your search. If you have a pretty good idea what part of the country or world your friend lives in, use the drop-down nationality menu to select the country to search. Even better, if you know what region or postal code the person might reside in, add that into the fields.
Myspace Classmate Searches
You can perform Myspace searches for old classmates by entering the name of whatever school you attended with this person. Add anything from a university to an elementary school, but specify the type of school you’re searching for. If your old acquaintance wrote their education information into their profile, this should turn up your friend on a search.
Review the school information once your search has returned candidates, to make sure you have the right school. Narrow your search by adding information like the years you know your friend attended the institution, as well as any major studies they were involved in (if this is a school of higher learning).
Don’t Get Discouraged
People have different time tables for answering a friend request. Some are on Myspace all day long, while others don’t look at their account but once a month. Also, people might have old email information or multiple email addresses, so be patient and hope they eventually see your request.
Build Your Myspace Network
One reason patience pays off is your ability to get a larger network as time goes by.
